Book Reads ||July 2019

My recent book selections have been hit or miss. I feel like when I am in charge of selecting the books I will read, I am so much worse than selecting from recommendations off Goodreads or Oprah’s Book Club.

This installment of what I read is a little bit of everything.

Let’s start with those I didn’t care for:

The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. Show of hands, who called it? No? Just me? I feel like it had a good message. And, that’s about it. I am not one who cares for a lot of language in a book and this one was no exception. I just feel like I could have done without it. It took me forever to stick with the book and if I’m being honest, I just wanted to set it down and forget it. I haven’t watched the movie and now I definitely feel like I don’t need to. Daniella saw the movie as part of a field trip and that rendition of her thoughts was good enough for me.

Shots Fired” by C. J. Box. If you remember back to a previous book reads post, I had read another book called “The Disappeared” that was part of this series. I felt in that book that I really didn’t need to read the books in the series to pick up on the story line and enjoy the book. Well, with this one I felt the complete opposite. So, lesson learned. I just couldn’t piece it together and honestly, felt a little lost.

Now, brace yourselves for the books that leave me to want to read them again:

The Fifth Letter” by Nicola Moriarty. This is the perfect summer beach read. It has just enough gasps, sadness and back stabbing for others to want to pick it up too! I am so in love with this book but was also left with questions to the point where I want to read it again to see if I missed something. Let it be known that I NEVER feel that way. If there is ever a book to be written about the reality of having a girl tribe from college, this. Is. It. And, it is a must!

The Wife Between Us” by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen is hands down the most twisted, thought provoking, amazing story line I have read in quite some time. The inside of the cover does not even begin to prepare you for what happens. Just when you think it is two different people, it is the same woman who also happens to be the BEST con woman I have read about. If there is one final book you read this summer, PLEASE READ THIS ONE!!! This is yet another book that I will be re-reading because I know now I missed things that are so important to the story line.

I always try to keep at least one book on my nightstand and lately I find myself loving fiction. I think at the place I am right now, I need to get lost in someone else’s story. I cannot wait to show you what I have read next month!

What have you been reading lately?
